A Mother's Day gift suggestion

This past weekend, we stopped by Country Gardens to pick up some herbs to fill in our herb beds. While we were there, we saw some really gorgeous flowers and hanging baskets. The prettiest one, to me, is pictured above and I couldn't get over it because these flowers look so much like antiques.

I did a search online and I believe the name of this variety is Antique Shades -- appropriate because as soon as I saw them, I said, "Look at the antique petunias."

I think something like this would make a wonderful Mother's Day gift and I will tell you if you go to any store in town where they sell flowers, you will have plenty to choose from. I think Country Gardens had some really beautiful and unusual varieties of flowers. The roses there are just beautiful and the hanging baskets are like works of art.

I think the plants here and at Arnall's Grocery are all well cared for. The flowers at Lowe's, Home Depot and the grocery stores don't get the same care and are often the more normal "garden variety" but I know you could find something there, too. In fact at Lowe's they are having to put the flowers out in the parking lot -- I mean way out in the parking lot because they don't have room for them in the garden section. It's really amazing.

Receiving cut flowers is very nice, too, but for me, give me something I will have for the entire summer. That is what I will give the Moms on my list.

  1. Those antique petunias are absolutely beautiful -- sort of Shabby Chic in a flower! My own mother has requested plants for her porch as her Mother's Day gift. (And she's not usually one to suggest, so I was happy she did!)
